Finally, we are down to about seven weeks of school left. The weather has really wreaked havoc on our school calendar. We are now scheduled for the last day of the school year to be on Thursday, May 29. This day is anticipated to be an early release day with the high school students being released at 12:20. There is good news and bad news for our graduates. The good news is that the graduation ceremonies are not being changes. Commencement ceremonies are still scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 25. The bad news for our graduates, due to the weather, they will be required to attend school on Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28. We are still investigating other possibilities so that this does not have to occur, but the students must anticipate being in school on these two days. There are several activities scheduled over the last month of the school year. The high school band will be making their trip to New York City on April 17 through April 21. On Monday, April 21, the school will be hosting its third blood drive of the school year. The blood drive will operate from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and be held in the front lobby of the school. Friday, April 18, is an early release day with high school students being released at 12:20 PM. The fourth grading period’s progress reports are due in the office by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23. They will be mailed home on Friday, April 25. The high school’s third annual Field Day will be held on Thursday, April 24. This day has been very successful over the past two years and we are anticipating another great day this year. On May 1, I will be meeting with the seniors who are anticipating going through the commencement ceremonies to finalize the plans with them over the last four weeks of school. On Saturday, May 3, the high school will be sponsoring the Prom Dance at 7:00 PM at the Senior Community Building. The National Honor Society will be taking their annual outing on Monday, May 5. This year the students will be going to the Cincinnati Zoo. I am working with Mayor Marksberry right now trying to schedule a Community Service Day so that students will be able to assist their community and be able to earn volunteer hours towards their scholarships. We are anticipating the service day to be held on either Wednesday, May 7 or Thursday, May 8. School will not be in session on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. The final exam schedule for the high school has been set. Exams will begin on Friday, May 23 and end on Thursday, May 29. We are conducting sign-ups now for summer school classes. We are anticipating having classes in algebra I, English, science, and social studies. Sign-up period will end on Wednesday, April 16. Students interested in signing up for one of these classes may do so on the lists posted outside the main office at the high school. First semester of summer school classes will be from Monday June, 2 through Friday, June 27. Second semester classes will be from Monday, July 7 through Friday, August 1. There will be no classes the week of June 30 through July 4. Class times have not yet been determined. The summer driver’s ed class has now been scheduled for Monday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 11. Class times will be from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond to the survey with respect to the dress code at the high school. We sent out 300 surveys and received only 97 responses. The responses we did receive were split about 50-50 in adopting a uniform policy. I will be using the information gathered in the responses and continue investigating the matter. There will be no changes in the dress code for the 2008-2009 school year. This will be my last article for this school year. The office hours at the high this summer will be from 8:00 A.M to 3:00 P.M. Hope everyone has an enjoyable summer. Please contact me at the high school at 438-2652 if you have any questions or concerns.
