School Board Minutes Board Meeting Synopsis!!!
(This is a brief description of what occurred during the meeting and in no way are the "items of interest" finalized until the School Board has had the proper time for consideration and approval.)
BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS April 8, 2008
The Board accepted Jerilyn Lambert’s maternity leave request. Carole Powell was hired as the new Transportation Secretary/Purchasing Agent for the Superintendent’s Office. Sissy Potter was hired as the new OCEMS custodian. The RSHS fall and winter athletic coaches were approved. With the exception of the cheerleading position, they will be the same as the 2007-2008 school year. Brian Graham was given a 2-year extension as the high school boys’ varsity basketball coach. The principals and assistant principals were given a 1-year contract extension. The Board approved a bid from York & Koons Roofing of $142,350 for the high school roof project. The 2008-2009 High School Student Handbook was presented for the first reading. One of the changes involves reducing the number of days that can be missed during a semester to six before the student looses credit in that class. The other major change involves eligibility for students to play extracurricular sports. Students who receive an F will no longer be eligible to participate. The new proposal also includes a tutoring program to help those in danger of failing a class. The Board approved Good Friday as a make-up day for the seniors due to the Senior Trip. The Board approved the 2009-2010 school calendar. The Board approved Thinking Mathematically for the new Discrete Math class. Mr. Patz recently attended a City Council meeting to thank the road crew for help with snow removal and is planning to attend an up coming County Council meeting to thank the county road crew for their help. The Board discussed the Prom Committee and its city grant request.
